Welcome to Eats in ATX! I’m Mara, your guide to all things food in Austin, Texas.

I have always been a foodie - early on in life, I was never afraid to try new things and push myself out of my comfort zone when it came to food. I still remember the first time I had escargot and thinking I was really cool. As I got older and went to college, I started to love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. There were a lot of weird things I cooked back then, but it helped me learn and become confident in trying new styles, techniques, and again…get out of that comfort zone! My dad, who is my inspiration in all things, has always been a fantastic cook. He would make these elaborate spreads for my friends growing up, which they all loved and still talk about. He used food as one of the many ways to show us love. I also love food because it reminds me of my Grandma, and how her food is a reflection of her journey in life. Her cooking rings true to her Appalachian roots and I often catch myself dreaming about her biscuits & gravy or fried green tomatoes.

In July of 2021, my partner, Justin and I moved to Austin, Texas for our jobs. We both have careers in Tech and knew Austin was the right place for us. Growing up in Tennessee, Austin still has that southern charm that I’ve known my whole life, while also being the cool and “weird” city I love so much. Austin is also known for its food. And for good reason. There are SO many wonderful places to eat here - you should see the list in my phone.

Documenting our eats across our new home has been a way for us to stay connected to our families in Tennessee, Florida, and Virginia, while also giving me a creative outlet to talk about my passion for food.

This place is all about giving you the inside scoop to Austin restaurants, bars, and things to do. We’re just real people who love food. I hope you enjoy our corner of the internet and find these guides and suggestions helpful during your next trip to Texas and beyond!
